The radiator fan is always running from the time the key is turned. I'm a fairly competant grease monkey but have no experience with these cars. Any help on where/what to check to help correct this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Vick.
Welcome There is a module under the dash just above the column. Should be a black module [has TRW on it if oem] that is what controls the fan. Now on the lower intake you will find a 1 wire sensor. That is what tells module when to come on. Disconnect that wire fan should stay off if does sensor is bad. If not probably the module is bad. Here is wiring diagram for it. Also is modification to wiring to add a external relay is relay is bad. Maurice. http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w...ringchange.jpg
edit. yellow/red wire is one I am talking about.
Thanks bro. I checked the sensor(pulled the lead off) b4 I posted this and the fan stayed running. I'll check the module 2morrow. I o u 1 my friend. Hey by the way, what kind of ponies u getting from your modded 2.3? I was thinking of building mine or going for the v8 convo. Thanks again bro. Vick
Have no idea on hp. Tried to get to track a few times this year. About 1 1/2 hours away. I work 5 days a week and on call the 6th. So you can see my problem. Anyway it is the wife's daily driver. Check those wire connections real good to module. If it is bad. Which I would assume now. You can unplug that connection and board will come out of the plastic case. Look at points of the relay [They are exposed once get cover off] If welded together just make my modifcation that is wiring diagram and should solve it. You then have a relay that is easy to replace. No problem here it help if I can. Maurice

The module that is in these cars was not made the way it should have. It cant handle the current flow for as long as they should. I have had two go out in my car, so i wired a switch that turns the fan on.
by the way, its a lot easier to type out the whole words. 2morrow? is that really easier than tomorrow? i owe you one my friend...

Give the guy a break here... He's 48 and I am sure he is just trying to fit in with the young, hip crowd we have here ... But yeah, for heaven's sake, it's way easier to read and to type the entire word... unless he types 1 word per minute, then he is saving himself half an hour here!
So when do you turn on the fan? When you are sitting in heavy traffic and the termperature gauge goes up a little? It's not needed as long as the car is in motion right?
ExtrmZ I agree. The module is a bad design as far at the relay section. If look at bottom right of my picture is diagram of how I add a external relay. That takes the load off those board pin connection. Wiring a switch is always a bad idea. Done read on several forums of motor failures caused by forgetting to turn the switch on. Also when turning on the AC or defrost. Fan needs to run to prevent damage to the AC system. Now if don't want to run the Ford module. I can draw you a diagram using a radiator thermostat and relay to replace all. Maurice
In my old camaro I had there was a bad relay or something with the fan so for a quick fix we connected it to the battery so it would kick on every time the key was in the on position. Maybe the previous owner did something similar?

Every problem has a twin named solution.
I'll be 50 in 2 months boys and believe me when u type with 2 fingers its easier for me to take a few short cuts. And I really dont give a rats ass about fitting in here or anywhere else for that matter(u guys will know what i mean in about 30 years or so.) I was lucky as far as being a teenager in the 70's when we really had HPs. Well thanks to all u young asses for all your help. Later, Vick

Steve
yes i also have mine rigged up this way on a switch. when the car is moving it does great. she sits at 150, and when i get to a stop light or traffic you just flip it back on. pretty simple.
and also it sounds to me like the fan is rigged up into the ignition system, so every time the key is "ON" the fan is also on. might want to chase out your power wire and see where its going to.
