I heard whispers of Ford possibly reintroducing a mustang along the lines of the original SVO. With this ecoboost technology, I think it would be a great idea if they could keep the cost in line with other mustangs. The main killers of the original were high costs over a GT and cheap at that time gas. What do you think?

These ecoboost engines have 1 small turbo per bank of the engine, 8-10 psi each, together for 14-15 psi operation. 355hp, with torque that's maxxed around like 1500 rpm or so that goes straight across the board.
Small cars, especially 4 passengers are gone. Just look at the size of the average American. It is going to happen. Now I was a NMRA and seen the Ecoboost and talking to a Ford man. I said I would love that motor in a crate form for my Vert. He just looked at me and smiled. Hum. Here is some pictures. ecoboost pictures by mgman75 - Photobucket
Just from looking at the motor and exhaust manifold. It needs exhaust header bad. Notice how restrictive. Maurice

Not even close to the same concept that the original SVO was. This car is just sharing the name and a ghey looking wing glued to the rear glass.
Yes, the original one was much more expensive than a GT (with the same HP in an 8 cylinder?), but it was so much different in so many other ways. Too much to even get me started on the typing here.
The main thing that killed the SVO was poor saled due to people not wanting to take on the concept that a 4 cyl was duking it out (and winning) with an 8.
The funny thing is, the 87 SVO team was rumored to have planned for a DOHC engine that was going to produce about 260 HP. Ford said NO.
I was in my formative car years during the SVO era. Magazines raved over the performance of the SVO mustangs. The real problem was a 5k difference in price for a car that had just slightly better performance against a car with an aftermarket in an era of cheap fuel. The focus needs to be on producing an affordable car in line with the GT. The SVO was created to compete and beat the BMWs of that era. They were cheaper than beemers but expensive for mustangs.

Slightly better performance? In your formative era you should have seen more than that.
The SVO:
Outran
Outbraked (first 4 wheel disc production Mustang)
Outhandled (Special suspension and strut/shocks)
Outclassed (first 16" wheel Mustang)
and provided more styling and comfort features than any GT. Yes, it was more expensive that a GT. But there is a world of difference between the two cars.
If you were at the 45th Mustang anny at Barber Motorsport park, you would have seen first hand that there were "slighty" modified SVOs kicking the asses of modern GTs, Cobras and a GT500 (that hit a wall trying to keep up with a 9L). Funny thing too....that 9L (white) SVO has a gray driver's door, a crinkled driver's fender (with holes from a dent puller) and a blue hatch. We call it the Road Warrior.
In the end, this new SVO is a modified 6 cyl Mustang. No special suspension, no different brakes, no more HP than a GT......so it doesn't "compete" with anything other than itself. If you are worried about gas mileage, get a hybrid 4 cylinder. A 6 cylinder that can put out the same HP as an 8 will also use the same amount of fuel. It is physics plain and simple.
Oh, and it has a gay wing glued to the back window.
