Default 1993 Mustang 2.3 Fox body chassis strenghtening.

I have a 1993 mustang LX with a 2.3L and I am planning to put a 5.8 351w 415hp engine in it and i need to know what I'm going to need to do to make the chassis handle the torque.

Through the floor frame rail connectors that tie in to the torque boxes in the rear upper links.

Found this on the internet... Google, lol. I actually just copied and pasted what TOM said and this was the first site. Now this is obviously pretty hardcore because it is obviously going to be a drag car, but there is lots of good stuff here: mustang instuction

I was thinking of making a "through" the floor sub-frame connector with round tubing. Because the floor pan dips down in the middle, I was thinking instead of just welding the tube just to each sub-frame, I could cut a hole in the floor just big enough so that the round tube would fit up against it. Then weld the brackets to the sub-frames and weld the tube to the floor pan.

I am not even sure what the "Torque Box" is still. Tom have you done that project where you were going to make those crazy connectors yet? I want some pictures!

OR, you can just do the easiest thing and what everybody else does: Homemade Sub-frame Connectors - FordMuscle.com Forums

Regualar old sub-frame connectors that simply are welded at each sub-frame.

DUDE!!! If you are going to be all mechanic like and drop in a huge motor, you gotta go and pick yourself up a welder and go to town!

rollcage = lots of TIG welding... or MIG if you aren't gonna drag it.

Thats a good thing joining the ARMY. Good decision DUDE. Here is a tip. Save your money on those boltons they are worthless. I have been building chassis for a long time and i would not lie to you. Consentrate on your ARMY plans and forget the bolt on connectors. Good luck on your career DUDE.

+1 on Tom's post. Bolt on subframe connectors aren't worth the money spent if you're serious about stiffening the chassis. Even if you throw a set of monkey bars in the car, you'll need a welder when it comes time to put the attachment point plates on the floor.

Good decision to serve your country. I've been talking with a lot of folks about what's available out there for kids out of, or getting out of high school and there ain't much. I'd never talk someone out of college, but even those kids are having a hard time in this job market. A handful of my son's friends are headed for the military and they're in their early 20's it's about the only viable option they have if they haven't already settled into something with a future.

I have decided to get it professionally done. I'm not sure why it took me until now to think of that.
