No salt here. That motor hasn't even been close to a salt shaker.

Where I used to live in Florida was surrounded by the best fresh water in the state. I could be at the ramp or on the water in 30 minutes. The closest lake was 5 blocks from the house.
I call that motor FrankenMerc. It's a hodgepodge of pieces and parts. The only new parts were bearings, rings, reeds, gaskets, and one sleeve. Everything else was either laying around, used parts purchased locally, or bought off ebay.
The block, heads, and front half were matching pieces I got from a Johnson buddy. "Come get this black crap outta my garage" kinda thing.
The midsection is actually from a 3.4L Merc (remember those?) It was a salt water mid that had one of those extensions to make it a 25" mid. Talk about a beeyotch to get apart. I learned alot about galvanic corrosion on that ordeal.
It's got the one piece exhaust adapter (hence the reason we gasket matched the exhaust exit).
The crank is from a 2.0L powerhead. The rods were survivors of past blown powerheads.
It's got 5 chrome bores and one steel bore. So it has 5 sets of steel rings and 1 set of chrome rings. Compression is a solid 140 across the board.
The transfer ports in the pistons were enlarged to match the finger ports in the block. Port timing was left stock.
The carbs are ebay specials from another 200hp 2.4L
No mechanical fuel pump. There's a Mallory Comp 140 and a BG bypass regulator in the boat fed by a 32 gallon fuel cell.
The lower unit is a Merc Hi-perf CLE (Crescent Leading Edge) with a Bob's Machine nose cone grafted on.
I've had a lot of fun with that rig. I'm hoping to get it up here to Georgia so I can get it cleaned up, tuned up and back on the water.
