mine has about 260,000 miles on it. i beat the snott out of the little 4-banger for 2 yeras now. runs excellent. good daily driver. 2.3s are not that bad at all. but an engine swap is inevitable.

I've got an '87 LX w/ 2.3 and up until yesturday it was a pretty good engine, the I found a huge oil puddle under the car, and the fuel pump went out. However, we're talking about mustangs here, suckish or not, their still Mustangs!

i own a 1991 mustang lx three door with a 2.3l and a T5 manual transmission. It is starting to get on my nerves, it is throwing about 6 engine codes. It saying that it is runing too lean and rich. Then it is saying that the injectors plase width it too long, and something to do with mass air flow voltage too or something about the o2. i pulled this codes with a snapon modise scan tool. What ever it is it is causing the tack to run about at 500 and it acts like it is only running on 4 pluge instead of 8 like it should. Also even though i replaced the clutch it still wants to grind going into reverse. Im thinking that it could be the clutch cable since it is the self adjusting type, But ive got about two inches of play only in the pedal. what could be cuaseing this and how do i fix im lossing my hair over this.

sounds to me like o2 sensor is bad... or going bad. also have you checked your plugs and wires? a vital sign to see how the engine is running. and as for your transmission it may be the trans its self internally. it could be the snycro's that are stripped. causing the grinding noise when trying to put it in reverse.

IM A PROUD OWNER OF A 1993 FORD MUSTANG LX 2.3 LITER, MY RIDE IS VERY GOOD ON GAS AND GOES PRETTY FAST , NOW NOT FROM STOP TO GO , BUT ONCE I GET GOING, MY MUSTANG GOES. YOU CAN RUN FAST AT THE START (5.0) BUT YOU CAN'T HIDE MAINTAINCE WORK ON THE 2.3 LITER IS GREAT, I ONLY HAD ONE PROBLEM WITH MY 93 MUSTANG .. AFTER WASHING THE RIDE ONE DAY, I TRIED STARTING THE MUSTANG AND IT WOULD NOT START SO I RAN SOME TEST AND FOUND OUT THAT THE FUEL PUMP HAD WENT OUT SO I REPLACED IT WITH A NEW ONE FOR $110.00 AND I PUT IT ON MYSELF TO SAVE MONEY ....2.3 LITER MOTOR DON'T SUCK THERE GREAT ON GAS AND VERY SAFE TO DRIVE... SO WHEN YOU SEE ME DRIVING MY 1993 FORD MUSTANG LX 2.3 LITER PROUDLY AROUND TOWN HONK AND GIVE ME A WAVE....

Wow what a jerk.
Just cause you can't take care of your car or you did something wrong. Get off the 2.3L mustang, it's my 1st car and it runs great. A stang is a stang and it doesnt matter how fast it goes, it's the appreciation of the car.

So if you wanna keep ragging on the 2.3L mustang, learn to take care of your car or when you buy one, check the car out before you buy it. You say you blew a head, well yea no duh, it got to hot. You know the temperature gage? YOU HAVE TO WATCH THAT! Don't let it get to hot.

sounds like you had a streak of bad luck with these motors there fordracing2-i have had my first ever 4 banger in a stang for 2 months and havn't had much problems with it-not yet anyway-i'm going to have to keep an eye out for the head gasket by the sounds of it-when i first bought it it was a dog hardly any acceleration even with a t5 in it-but tell you what, when i blocked off the egr drpped a k&n in it it turned out to be a pretty fun car to drive-removing those cats are nxt that should wake the sucker up-sorry you had sh!tty luck with your 2.3-you still have it or is it still sitting

They used to suck back in 1974-1977. They used to burn pistons all the time. But i repaired them in 1975. And ford recalled all of them. Ford used my modified bearings and rods . The engine ran perfectly after ford used my modifications. Ford then turbowed the 2.3 in the TC and SVO. The engine in its highest hp rating of 215 HP was just 5 hp less than a 5.0. The engine is a marvel of engineering and i loved working on it with FORD .TOM

You did not break a rod. You broke a rod bolt. Unfortunately 2.3 rod bolts are junk. I recomend using ARP bolts on reman engines. The stock ones are a bit week. But in an NA motor they are perfectly fine. The 2.3 ford is one of the best motors ford ever built. The fact is it would not hold up to 16 lbs of boost for litterly thousands of miles if it was junk. Mine has 211,000 and has had no electronic problems and no engine problems, just average things you would expect to replace, water pump, alternator.. The transmission just went out and had to be rebuilt, but the engine is still purring. Tune up once a year and oil change every couple of months, that and gas is all I have had to put into it..

I have had a 93 mustang 2.3L with auto trans a couple months. The trans was slipping pertty bad adn I tired the lucas anti slip and it did not stop slipping, actually got worse. Had a factory rebulit installed and solved the slipping but once it stopped slipping, it had no power at slow speed....and lower gears... The mechanic replaced the Fuel filter and solved the problem.... obviously was not getting fuel.... might give that a check..
