wow..... when i see someone make a comment like this.... i cant help but think... " this guy is clueless " ..... 2.3 is pound for pound one of the toughest engines ever made.... i cant break them when i try to.... i can show you a website listed where a guy pulled a junkyard 2.3 liter out of a merkur... freshened up the gaskets.. slung it in his notch, started adding bolt ons... next thing you know.. he's running 28 psi on a junkyard 2.3 with pump gas in the tank..... it takes a pretty big moron to mess a 2.3 up...
are you referring to the guy that put a holset turbo in there as well as weld up 3 volvo intercooler cores together and run the crap out of it?if so,i saw that and its crazy, guy has guts.....
Anything is possible, I wouldn't say he has guts though.. he KNEW he could do something for relatively little amount of money. I give that guy mad props for building a nice lil car. That little car can be a daily driver, drive to the track, and then run some pretty impressing times. 2.3's have all kinds of potential, in fact.. 2.3's that are all done up, turbo'd, etc etc are awesome due to the fact todays gas prices are insane, some people cannot even afford to drive their 5.0's because of this. However, if you have a turbo 2.3 that has some stuff done to it, you can enjoy that car everyday. I'm looking into starting a turbo 4 banger project honestly.
im starting a 2.3t swap right now into my 88 lx,its going pretty smooth, but if i could start over again,i would have bought an svo to begin with to avoid all the fabrication im going to have to do......but nontheless,i love my notch and itll definately be a sleeper when its done!!!!!!i would do a 2.3T if i were you dude!!!!
I put my 2.3 back together to all of the factory specs with new gaskets and bearings, and the motor would not run we checked the timing and ignition components and they all were correct. Finally on the third day we got it to run after moving the distributor timing, but it still ran like it did before we took it apart. I took it apart again and there was antifreeze everywhere in the motor. The head had warped from running for just awhile (Not even overheating). It is almost as quality as the time that I took the Air Conditioner belt off the car and the car wouldn't run anymore. It turned out that the head gasket had gone out at that point also. I bought a redone 2.3 and drove it. It drove good for two days before it ran like **** and started to sputter and cough, so me and a friend took it out in the woods and rallied it through the woods all as fast as it could go until the car wouldn't run any more. There is some more good 2.3 liter mustang motors for anyone who wants them.

that's the route i'm gonna take, considering I remember a few merkur turbo's at the local junkyard.....
and yeah, that guy even bolted a cummins turbo from a dodge diesel truck, so he's rompin 30 psi of boost on an ALL stock internal engine. Don't do 30psi on any regular 4 banger like imports b/c they will break into a thousand pieces. and he ran a 12.39.

sounds like you either did not magnaflux the engine, did not install the gaskets right, or should pay a pro next time.
I plan on pulling my 2.3L out of my 89 mustang LX and replacing it with a 302 of the same year. I have a standard transmission would I need to remove the tranny or will it match up, or can I get a conversion kit for it. Tourque aside that is. Also What kind of rear end do I need to put in it if I do. Need some help I'm a total novice at this. Thanks

you can run the same trany but dont dog it or she will go south on ya. might see if you can find a donor car, its best to change the suspension front and rear. a 8.8 31 spline rear end with at least a 373 gear is best. (imo)
