Default 1987 Mustang auxiliary shaft timing

I have a 1987 mustang 2.3 liter that I just replaced a head gasket on and I forgot to mark what the timing was on the Auxiliary shaft sprocket can anyone help me out?

Jim, As far as the aux shaft goes it runs the oil pump and the distributor,......now having said that, ALL that's needed is to reset the distributor "timing"
Find the #1 (goes to spark plug #1) tower on the dizzy and rotate the motor to Top Dead Center then pull the dizzy up till the gear disengages and turn the rotor to line up with #1 towers location.
Hope this helps
TJ

Jim- Do you have a repair manual? Hope so
I do mine by taking the dizzy hold down bolt & plate off then pill the dizzy out till I can turn the rotor by hand (my set up #1 is lower left rotor cap tower/spark plug wire connector doohickey when standing on the driver's side fender looking in at the motor) to the #1 spark plug positition then slide the dizzy back in. Sometimes the rotor will move one direction or the other a little bit- it is because of the gears lining back up.
Now you have the distributor ready to put the hold down plate and bolt back in-don't get it to tight just yet.
Next remove the GRAY SPOUT plug from the wire harnes of the TFI module on the distrubutor. Crank up let the motor warm up operating temp and set your base time to 10* by turning the dizzy clockwise or counter-clockwise as needed.
When you are happy with your base timing tighten the hold down bolt and put the SPOUT plug back in and you should be good to go.
