1990 Mustang LX Shifter Is Too Close To The Radio!
Hi Everyone,
I'm assuming everyone with a similar year Fox bodied Mustang like mine (90 model LX) has this problem.
The shifter is right in front of the radio. It looks like the only way I can get a CD in our out is put it all the way down into Low-1 (it's an automatic).
I currently have a tape deck with a trunk mounted CD changer, but the unit is old and it's time to upgrade. I would like to put a CD deck in, but how will I get CD's in and out? What has everyone else done to get around this problem?
I thought maybe I can mount the CD deck at an angle, so the CD will come out above the shifter, or maybe try to find some kind of offset shift that has a handle that sits farther back.
That is the setup I have now. I have a tape deck controlling a remote 12 disc changer. But in my other car I have a CD deck and I prefer that to a changer, plus, who has tapes now anyway? LOL. I bet I have had a tape in their maybe 3 or 4 times, tops.
To Tony Berger,
Now that is a pretty good idea, I didn't realize that was possible. I'm gonna look at that and see if that makes the A/C controls too hard to reach, if not, it's a done deal. Thanks.

That's a huge problem with fox bodies. I only change the CD when I'm actually driving. I've seen stangs with radios mounted in the AC space above the radio but I think that sucks because then you'd only have 2 vents. I don't really use CD's anymore though. Most aftermarket CD players come with an auxillery plug. just get and MP3 player that will hold all your CD's and you'll never have to change CD's again. Or get a radio that takes "IPOD READY" and get the speed cable that runs to your glove box and you can control your ipod directly from the radio. The radio charges the IPOD while it's working so you never reall have to mess with it. Go to Bestbuy and ask em about it...
