Default 2.3L to 5.0L

Hey, I was just wondering the average cost of an engine swap from a 2.3 liter to the 5.0 liter in the foxbody mustang. About how much did it cost, and was it difficult to do? Anyways my dad found a 91 LX in really good shape, was going to suprise me for christmas because I have always wanted a mustang. Anyways he was fishing around asking me what I thought of the 4 banger stangs and I told him basiclly that they are slow peices of crap that needed to be crushed. He brought up swapping the engine and all that and basiclly I told him "no no no" ect. Well, he told me that he was sorry that I felt that way........took me out to the house where the mustang was, said he drove it and it was in great condition, was pretty hurt, ect. I felt pretty rotten about the way I acted towards him, and I started thinking and decided it wasnt such a bad thing, not to mention I could build the engine I want before putting it in, and might come out cheaper. The body and interior are in great condition, along with the 4 banger that was recently replaced. Might even come out cheaper seeing as I wont find a mustang with the look quality and the fast quality in my price range........so why not start slow? Any ideas?

Thumbs up

I've always had an afinity for that lowly 2.3. It had plenty of potential in it's time.

I remember several na Pintos doing low 13s in street trim and my old Mercur Xr4Ti was a VERY fast car putting many a Mustang V8 and even a Corvette in it's kill list.

There are threads aplenty regarding the swap you intend and it is fairly inexpensive.

IMHO, it's a great start and you and your Dad will be much better off for your efforts making this Mustang yours over buying something you might think is better.

BTW, MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Dude , any free car (gift) is good .
A free mustang is better .
A 91 is 5 years newer than what I drive .
If your young , insurance may be high for you with a V8 .
If you swap motors , the insurance will think it's a 4 cyl. :thumbsup
This may help the insurance rates .

TAKE IT ANYWAY !!!!!!!!!

Yeah, we also factored in insurance, it will be cheaper for sure. My Brono's insurance is the same as it would be on a V8 stang, lol, but its still expensive. The year of the car also made me think twice out of the whole thing. Suposedly my dad called the people and cancelled the deal, so now I feel even worse. My fault though, guess I learned my lesson . Anyways thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it . Merry Christmas to you both!

Yeah but if you do a swap and dont tell your insurance agency about it and you end up totalling your car and someone else car and it was yoru fault. You could be found liable becuase you neglected to tell your insurance company of the engine change and therefore you will not be covered by your insurance. Its pretty risky.
