hello,

does anyone know how to do a 2.3L turbo conversion to a escort?

Hey, I'm looking for info on the same swap. I posted a question but got nothing useful back. I have a 87 turbo coupe engine and an 86? escort 5-speed I inherited. Want to get some info before i start anything. Please let me know if you find anything out.
They would be fun sleeper weighing only 2000lbs.:thumbsup

a 2.3 from a tempo would bolt in but it is not a good motor to build up. same with the 3.0 v6. I have a exp and am trying to decide if I should put a 1.9 ho or a zetec...the zetec would take some fabracation whereas the 1.9 would bolt in...if I had the money I would want to convert it to rwd and put an svo mustang drivetrain in it....that would be cool.....

The tempo 2.3 and Mustang/Ranger/Pinto/Thunderbird 2.3 are different. I do not believe either is a bolt in to an escort.

Your best option IMO is to replace the internals with forged then add the turbo.

I could be mistaken, but wasn't there a turbo variant of the ford escort exp? I can't remember if it was only the earlier exps or an option later... But I'm sure they do have turbos considering some of the et's I've seen out of them on the net.

yes they had a 1.6 turbo in 84/85. I have an 85

why not buy a later 1.8l turbo motor out of a 91-96 ford escort gt they had N/A mazda miata motors in them push out 127 hp stock dont know what site it was but you could buy a turbo ready 1.8 for $2000 that pumps out a little more than 250 hp with out racing stuff after you put the turbo on.

hey you guys were just talking about the ford escort exp and i just found one in a junk yard in south carolina if anyone needs anything pm me ill tell you were it is at.

feoa.net they hav fourms for this and many ppl turbo the 1.8 out of the gts but u might hav to switch out the whole front suspension from the donor car. sence u hav an 80's the escort is mainly ford the 91 and ups will hav a cross mix and even lx upgrade to gt take alot of work.

People would like you more if you used a turbocoupes drivetrain instead of one outta a car so rare.

dont worry. I wouldn't part out an svo to do it. pintos have 2.3s. 2.3s are in a lot of cars. if I did it I would build up a 2.3 and get the forged parts and most likely some aftermarket turbo and intercoolers. just use the svo drivetrain as a reference. I have an svo and I dont want to see anyone part them out either.
