I love the way my real-wheel-drive, low-to-the-ground 'stang can turn on a dime at higher speeds. But, let there be something slippery on the road, or even gravel, and it does some rather surprising things! I remember once when my cousin tried to beat a light making a right turn (no one ever said he drives with any sense), and there was water in the road, we did some serious sliding! Not a good thing.

I'll probably take that advice about weight in the trunk, as we're entering the cold, never-ending-rain portion of Oregon's year.

one word of advise dont drive fast who cares about other people driving around you.....make braking time longer and take off slowly. and yeah throw some sand in the back

Yep, if there's anything that makes driving slow relatively fun, it's that little 2.3l. Heheh.

Well my 89 2.3 i had about 6 years ago went better than i thought it had wide 14 inch tires. Never had any trouble, just need to be a fairly good driver. On the other hand i wont drive my 90 5.0 when it rains.

i'll tell you what. i live in rochester, and we know snow. i wrecked my 89 mustang into a mail box last January. there was nothing i could do your better off selling the mustang and buying a FWD dodge. before i raced dirt track i dragged 80's turbo dodge cars. they are powerful and work 12 months a year. try turbododge.com, its another forum. but seriously RWD mustang in the snow is like peeing in a snow storm, just dumb

Grr, looks like the rain is making things slippery enough. I slid when I braked for a turn, and now my hood is dented in. Wasn't enough impact with the guard rail to break the grill/radiator, but the hood wasn't so lucky. I think I'll be able to straighten it without too much problem though.

Winter/extra-careful driving tactics begin now.

I LOVE driving in the snow with my 2.3! Its really easy to get the tires to spin but as long as you don't jump on the throttle, you won't be spinning the tires. I always kept a full tank when it snowed too. That really helped keep traction. But even with brand new tires, I could hold my car sideways the entire block

My only advice is to make sure that you have some good tires! i LIVE IN NORTHERNA IDAHO, AND HAVE ALL MY LIFE. This year we got 36 inches in one day! Really it is true. I still had my chevy then, so i just plowed snow with my bumper and hood. But as long as you arent trying to push any snow these 2.3s do great. as long as you are using some common sense and know your cars boundaries. But the black ice is a whole other story. Good luck trying to move on that stuff in 4 wheel drive!! Have fun and be safe. And dont be suprised when your car flips around on a corner. lol, just pretend like you ment to do it. Oh wait that hasnt ever happend to me. lol. ....Right.

With my stang I once drove over 20 miles out in the middle of nowhere when me and my girlfriend were just talking and riding the car out. We parked and it started to snow. we took a nap and like 2 hours later there was 5 inches of snow on the the ground.
I have 285/40/17 tires on this thing and let me tell you it HATES the snow. keeping the rear end straight it like a game. and you never win. I ended up being stuck out there for over 14 hours. and had to get pulled out by some country fella in a turbo diesel. crazy...

Take the 4 wheel drive when it snows. And park the mustang. They stink in the snow.

I laughed my butt off when i read Yan Jin's post. up here in northwest indiana we get some pretty good snow and i too have driven past many an suv in a ditch (theyre usually the same dinks who passed me a half mile back) and pointed and laughed from my little pony car. sincs faspony has a stick that really helps, but my auto tranny doesnt do bad at all.
my first winter driving the car i put a 50lb metal plate in the trunk and it wasnt bad, but every subsequent winter i havent put any weight in it and i've actually liked how the car handled better that way. lol i havent been sliding around the roads either. i could b a wierd driver that way, i guess. but to each his or her own
only thing tho, if folks put cinderblocks in the trunk i'd make sure they cant slide around on you. i had groceries in my trunk once n took a surn sharp 2 smoke this trapper keeper lookin car (totally left him eatin dust!) but when i got home i found that my friggin detergent bottle had knocked out the rod in the trunk that popped it up when u opened it. it was a pain 2 fix just cuz of all the twisting u gotta do 2 get it back in there. so just a friendly fyi for everyone on that
