Default 91 Changing stereo?

Hello. I went out to change my stereo from the factory to a cd player lastnight, thinking it would have only taken a couple minutes, like my Grand prix did.

Anywho long story short, I took apart half the interior dash and console before getting frustrated and putting it all back.

Is the only way to get the stereo out to take off the panels below the steering wheel, and center console, and the console all the way back past the shifter?

I've never seena vehicle that required so much to be removed for a stereo.

Any help? Thanks.

The beauty is that you don't have to remove a single panel to get the factory Ford stereo out of the car. All you need is a little knowledge, and either the right tool, or (4) 2 or 4 penny nails. I'm thinkin' you'll do better with the tool. Go to one of the big chain stores and look in the stereo junk rack for a Ford radio removal tool. It's just a couple of U or V shaped deal that fit into the holes in the 4 corners of the radio. Pop em in, and gently slide the radio out. You'll need to move the shifter out of the way to get it all the way out. Oh, and the little tray is mounted to the radio so it's coming out with it. I've done them with and without an installation kit, and while I like the looks of the install without the kit, the kit is certainly easier and requires no skill beyond regular hand tools.

Now put your car back together and good luck with the rest.

Wow, thank you very much. Now, to get the new stereo in, will it just slide in, and how do I attach the cubbyhole part beneathe it?
