Question 1988 Mustang Turbo Swap. All ready but have one question..

But One Last Question

I Understand The Engines Are Exactly The Same And That When Doing The Swap The only Parts Ill Will Have To Change Out Is The

1.computer(s)
2.wiring Harness

Thats What Ive Been Reading Round The Site

But Some Randomn Person Told Me That I May Have To Change My Fuel Pump Because It Wont Be Able To Handle That Much Psi
Out Of My 85tc....is This True?

Im Trying To Get A Broad Breakdown Of Every Little Deteail I Need To Change Out Or Have Done So That When I Go To Do The Performance Parts Everything Is Fine And Dandy....
the Way I Took This Whole Swap Thing Is Change Out The Engines, Wiring Harness, And Brain And Then Bam Im Done And Ready To Roll My 88 2.3l
My Main Question Is

is All I Change Out The Engine, Wiring Harness, And Brain And Then Im Ready For Performance Parts?

or

after I Change Out The Engine, Wiring Harness And Brain...then Change (fill In The Blank)

It'd be a good idea to change to a 255 lph fuel pump while you're doing the swap. Did you read my write-up? Here it is.

Hmmmm...i Missed That....where Can I Find One Of These Pumps....local Auto Zone?

AND I TAKE IT THAT THE SWAP DOES ONLY CONSIST OF CHANGING THE
WIRING HARNESS
BRAIN (COMPUTER)
AND A FUEL PUMP....
CORRECT?

Best price I've seen. You want the 255 lph high pressure pump, p/n GSS-340 - $96.
Walbro Ford High Performance Fuel Pump/Kit

Everything I said in my post. Also, you don't need to change the wiring harness, you just need to repin the computer connector on your existing harness. STINGER PERFORMANCE PARTS - 2.3 Turbo Performance Parts for Mustang SVO, Thunderbird Turbo Coupe, Merkur XR4Ti, Pinto, Ranger, and Sand Rails or FlemWorld both have step by step instructions.

I Read Ya Post....i Was Kinda Confused Since You Named Things That Needed To Be Changed On The N/a...i Thought The 3rd Paragraph (the By Far The Cheapest Paragraph) Was The Only One I Could Relate To Since I Already Have The Donar Car And Its Explainin Wich Cars Can Be Donor Cars.

I Think The Easiest Way To Explain The Parts That Need To Be Swapped Would Be To List Them For Me...im Retarded When It Comes To Workin On Cars...

My List Of Swapping Parts That I Know Of Motor Runnin Wise
1.wiring Harness
2.computer
3.the 1985 Tc Engine
4.ready To Drive

What All Did U Swap Evintho....if You Had A List What Swap Parts Would Be On The List (please Include Every Swapped Part)

Thanks For Your Time

Cool

For Thunderstang, I used an '87 TC as a donor car and swapped everything into an '89 Mustang. IIRC you're using an '85 TC as a donor and swapping into an '88 Mustang. That's just a slightly different swap than mine, with emphasis on the 'slightly'.
Basically, you need the motor and all it's peripherals and repin the harness connector.

Peripherals include:
Turbo (duh)
Downpipe
VAM
Injectors
Computer
As far as wiring the '85 computer, it's pretty much the same as an LA series. Not sure if Stinger's website covers that or not. Might want to check. Make sure you have the pinout chart for the TC computer and the Mustang harness. Wiring diagrams and EVTM's for both cars are invaluable!

A list for my swap, again, is slightly different than yours.
'87 TC motor
All the above peripherals
LA3 computer
EGR solenoid valve (smog)
255 lph fuel pump
Plumbing for NPR intercooler
Repinned my existing '89 Mustang wiring harness

Wow....more Difficult Then I Thought...i Dont Think I Could Even Try And Attempt That....

Heres How I Would Of Done It......

Strip The Engine With Turbo Connected

Strip The Wiring Harness And Comp.

Swap Em Over The Complete Engine To The Different Cars

Put The Tc Comp And Wiring Harness Into The Stang

Then Change Out The Fuel Pump Wit That One U Told Me Bout

I Wouldnt Have Change

I Think Im Jus Gonna Keep The Engines In The Original Vehicles Shits To Difficult For A Newbie

The Vam, Injectors Or Down Pipe....

You gotta be kidding me! Dude, take a chance! Trial and error. You're not gonna learn anything new in life if you don't take a chance! If you can turn a wrench or twist a screwdriver, you can do this swap! It's not that difficult! How do you think I learned? By doing it and if I screwed something up, I figured it out. I think I mentioned this before. Read all you can on the subject. That's part of the learning experience. You can do this. I know you can! I'll be here to answer questions as will alot of other guys. Over time you'll figure out who has the answers and who is just talking out of their butt. Read other boards too. Take a chance!

If I Wanted To Switch Out The Whole Wiring Harness Could I Do That Instead Of Repin It Or Repin It Has To Be Done

I suppose you could but repinning it would be 1000 times easier than switched the entire harness.

re-pinning the harness means you pull the wires that need to be switched out of the back of the harness connector one-at-a-time and relocate them to the new needed location. It is faster than swapping the engine harnesses but whether it's actually easier or not is debatable. It'll take ya a good 15 minutes to an hour to re-pin (depending on what needs changing) but the eyestrain from squinting that hard reading Ford wiring diagrams is pretty bad, plus, if you screw up you've got to track it down. It's not actually "hard" to switch out the harnesses completely, just very time consuming, (you're talking a minimum of two hours and more likely 3-4) and it's only "easy" with two people, re-pinning can be done totally solo.

That seriously sounds like a lack of confidence, not something i'd expect from someone interested in a DIY engine swap. Come on though, it shouldn't even be that difficult for you. I'm going to be doing the same swap into a non-efi V6 mustang II, at least you alread have the same sized engine & the wiring harness only having to repin. I hope to start on mine sometime in the next few weeks, and by the way i've never even personally changed the oil on my car
