Question Mustang Rear Seat Delete Kit or Removal Save Much Weight?

i am trying to make my car light weight. would taking out the backseats really do much or would i be wasting my time. this summer i am putting in a 302 so it will be faster. i thought about getting a backseat delete kit. would this do much for the weight and i am also putting light weight racing seats in the front.

yeah, you'll save around 100 lbs. That's good for a tenth in the 1/4.

I tore out my back seat but haven't put in the rear seat delete kit I bought. I did it because the car had mice in it and stank. I would say from my memory you might save more like 40 to 50 pounds if you install the kit. That's just from my memory of what the seats felt like. I also seam to remember either a magazine article or the ad for the delete kit I got saying that it was around 50 lbs.

There is a guy on E-bay that sells the kits. Try looking up mustang rear seat delete. It might say there.

Depends on the material.

Plywood is heavier than regular wood, Stiffened balsa (using the gel stuff model airplaners use) would be the lightest outside of ABS or Carbon Fiber.

a hundred lbs is a tenth, and half a mpg.

I wouldn't subject anyone to the back seat anyway. The only thing that's ever back there are groceries and paperwork fromt he office.

heh heh its like I gotta loose 80lbs of body fat for 80lbs of muscle. if the seat folds down then probally just spreading the wieght out might be better than getting rid of it completly

no, that's impossible -weight is weight.

I was definatly gonna do the same thing, cpet i also wanted to make the rear of the car nice enough to lay in, more weight but meh, what the heck. a tenth of a sec dont really matter to me.... but how much weight could i lose if i made my hatch into what somone just suggested to me....... convertible.

but yes, clear glass enclosure...the only way to go
