Default New 2.3L turbo project idea.

Let me know what you guys think on this one. Lately i've been thinking of a new project to build into a road race car, since my current 5.0 is gonna be a drag/street car. I was thinking of a Mustang coupe, painted black with cobra ground effects, with a 2.3L turbo SVO motor, t-5, 8.8 rear end, 4.10 gears, gutted interior with full cage, and Maximum Motorsports suspension pack with cobra brakes... My brother has an SVO motor w/ t-5 trans that i can buy off him. The only thing is I need to research more on making those 2.3 turbos fast... i've heard stories of 400hp ones, but how did they do it? lol... if anyone knows any info on upgrading these motors let me know... thanks guys

Well if you want to rebuilt the motor you could stroke it to 2.5l for a lil more displacement. The internals on those motors were forged so a rebuild isnt needed but a freshing up is sometimes wise! Then you could port the heads, and intakes. Front mount intercooler, larger turbo blahblahblah.

just the pistons are forged from factory, cast pistons get swiss cheese'd with boost/ detonation. check out esslinger for there crate engines and bolt on's. 40Bob.com - 2.3T headers, ported and gutted intakes, and accessories. has some cool stuff too.

Bottom ends are'nt bad but your power will come from the head cam intake exaust you know all the top end stuff but to get to 400hp you'll need a stand alone ecu like megasquirt try esslinger for an alum. head, boport for the cam and porting, and stinger performance for most of the other stuff like header exaust front mount ic. i have most of this plus a stout bottom end but without the ecu bigger injecters and a good tune i wont get more than 320.

I'm not sure that "bigger is better" when choosing a turbo, there's a lot to it, with the a/r ratio and rpm band. I think it'll take some research to choose what will do you best. I've seen some builds having, I think, a B234? head from a volvo (twin cam). If you research it enough you'll find the information. Youtube has a video of a 2.3L turbo running between 6 and 7 seconds in the quarter. ANYTHING is possible.

I build 2.3 that will pull 400+ hp. Big turbo BO head and a stand alone fuel management system. And lots of MONEY. Volvo head swap will cost a minimum of $3000.00 just for the head setup. And is on the cheap side. An iron head D port is well within making 400+ ponies. Hope this helps. TOM
