I just got this thing and haven't worked out all the kinks yet but that hatch is driving me up the wall. I've adjusted the bolt that the latch grabs but it still won't fix the problem.

You need to replace the bushing itself. Not the bolt but the sleeve that's over the bolt. Late Model Resto has them, or you can go to your Ford dealer. Some guys have used electrical tape to help it until they've gotten a new striker bushing.

Or you can just remove it entirely

Might have some wind noise though

Would the weather striping have anything to do with it. Mine is pretty much flat around the bottom of the hatch. The hatch does not allways close properly.
