Default idle control valve vs. idle air control valve.?

what is the difference? I have an idle problem that I think I have narrowed down to these two contraptions. can someone let me know which one I should change first?

I think you've stumbled across two names for the same part.

are you sure? I see two different devices one attached to the throttle body. the other attached to the intake manifold and exhaust manifold.

Attached to the throttle body is your Idle Air control

If it's attached to the intake manifold and has a tube that runs to the exhaust manifold, that's your EGR valve.

ok, I got it. thanks. I opened the air duct and you can get to the idle control valve via a small opening to the left. I sprayed the crap out of it. the idle felt normal for about 5-10 minutes of driving, then it went bad again. I think I need to replace it.

Angry PO 506 error

I'm having the same issue and I had to deal with it for over 3 years. I have an '05 mustang gt and I bought a Steeda cold air intake kit and was told I needed to program it. So I purchased the SCT Xcalibrator 1, way back when, and once programed, it ran amazing but after awhile my engine light came on. I figured it just had to do with the new settings but my car has been running horrible including reving on it's own. (while both in park and in drive) When I do reprogram the xcalibrator settings again the engine light goes off, but then once again, most of the time the same day, the dam light comes on and once it does my car goes from awesome to crap. I don't know what to do. I've called both steeda and SCT and they make it sound like I'm the first to experience this issue. It sucks...

You really need to remove the IAC to get Fuel Injection cleaner in there so it will make a difference.
I removed mine, layed on the workbench with the inlet and outlet ports faing upward. I then sprayed the FI cleaner into it until the entire cavity was flooded and let it sit for an hour or so. Rinse and repeat a few times. You should see the trash that will come out of there.
Night and day difference after.
