Default Intermittent Check Engine Light, 1991 Mustang

I've got a '91 2.3 hatchback with a check engine light that comes on some time but only for a short period of time. It will stay on any where from a couple of seconds to a few minutes. It will happen at any time as well it no just when the engine is hot or cold. All the gauges read fine except the gas gauge. and the engine does not sound any different when the light is on. Any ideas on what might be the problem?

i had this problem recently and i believe i changed out the fuel pump relay unit under the hood on the left side on the inner fender. i had to get the part from a ford dealer. it ran about $120.00

Turbosnake many parts stores will scan and read the trouble codes on our tangs for free......I KNOW some of the parts monkeys don't have a clue as to what they're doing but the scan will point you in the general direction of what sensor or system is throwing that flickering check engine light at ya

Agreed. Get codes and then come back

Maybe 20PSI, new computer, new 3" VAM, and some porting will make it faster

I had this problem and the codes read a lean bank. turns out the DIS module was going bad (o'reilly auto parts tested for free). The DIS module was sending a faulty signal causing the fuel delivery to be too lean in mixture.
