Hello. I have a 1992 ford mustang convertable LX. I'm new to the car world so I don't have all the terminology, but I will try to describe to the best of my ability. My timing belt broke, I've removed all the belts to get to it, and the plastic casing without breaking it. All I need to do is slip my new belt over the three tog wheels with the teeth. I can slip it over two, but the third is protected by something that protrudes about 2 to 3 inches out and a metal fence like protection that protects the belt from dirt and such. There is no way for me to slip the belt over, seeing as there is a space about an 1/8th of an inch between the protecting metal and the protruding object. This object has a bolt in the middle of it, deep in too about 2 inches. I've tried to take it off, we even bought an impact wrench, but I broke a socket (it fit over thee bolt perfectly) trying to get it to come off.
Can someone help me?
Nice to hear of girls that wrench on their own cars. I wish I could help but I've never worked on the 4 bangers. I'm sure someone hear will have some helpful info.
You may have more problems than just changing the broken belt. Do you have any idea what caused the break in the first place? How did it happen? What does the broken belt look like? Can you post a picture?

Quick question, do you own a 2.3? Its belt that could be worn, dry rotted, etc. (just a thought)

The sad thing is, with 15 PSI, straight back exhaust, and a bobs log, it still feels slow...
Maybe 20PSI, new computer, new 3" VAM, and some porting will make it faster
