Default 1989 Mustang Fuel Gauge/Sender Wiring Question

I am installing an after market fuel gauge on my 89 Mustang 2.3L and I'm having a problem. The repair manual said the wire going from the fuel gauge sender to the OE fuel gauge is yellow with a white stripe. But when I hooked that wire to the new gauge and turn on the key, the gauge pegs below empty. The Gauge is an Equus 8361 for Ford/Chrysler OE senders so it shouldn't be a problem about the ohms not being the same. It has a good ground. All I can think is that maybe I don't have the right wire coming from the sender. I am at a loss. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Did you try the other wire?

Maybe 20PSI, new computer, new 3" VAM, and some porting will make it faster

I think the wire you're using is the gauge power not the signal return from the tank. Check your wiring diagram for a second wire going to the gauge.

The wire you're talking about probably has a full 12V when the key is on. If there's fuel in the tank and you have the return wire, it should read less than 12V

I Found the problem. Now I have another one. I Forgot my mustang is an 89 1/2. Most of the parts on it are for the 1990. I pulled the sender from the tank yesterday and tested it.Sure enough it's readings are that of a '90 sender, 16ohm empty, 158ohm full. The after market gauge ohms are 73ohm empty, 10 full which is the same as the '89 and previous senders. Is there any way I can change my sender to the '89 one? Or would it mess something up?
