Default 1991 Lx car keeps restarting itself

one day driving around my 1991 lx mustang 2.3 n/a started making a grinding noise then after continue driving with this noise (noticed had lack of power coming from engine like somethin was holding it back) the car then all of a sudden stopped making the noise and i realized my convertible top motor which i had just replaced wasnt working along with my turn signals. I then check my fuse box and found out it was the fuse had been blown so i then replace the fuse started up the car and it started fine but then it kept sounding like it was trying to keep restarting itself and the noise came back but top worked and blinkers worked turned off the car and took out the fuse and restarted the car and the noise was gone. few days later was going to take some pics of it and i put the fuse in and turn the car to the on position so i could lower the top down but when i turned it to the on positon it was starting the engine instantly and i did it three times to make sure that it wasnt just me turning it to the start postion and thats when i realized that it continuesly wants to restart its self with this fuse in any suggestion paid $3,000 for car and invested $2,200 for rebuilt transmission & new convertible top motor car is beautiful and want to restore it has killer sound system that came with car nice top just need to fix the minor kinks with the engine

It's likely the starter solenoid or the ignition switch, both can cause that problem.

so if it was the starter could i get a high performance get more torque starter for my 2.3 n/a engine or should i get a normal stock one i want to replace parts in this car once so when i swapp in the turbo i dont have to change the part again or spend more money but i also think i forgot to say is that when the fuse is not plugged in the noise and restarting itself doesnt happened i just drive around with out working blinkers and convertible top do you still think its the starter or solenoid still and how can i be able to tell which it is the starter or soleniod

So the starter keeps engaged??? Sounds like you need a new one. I suggest replacing the solenoid also its only like $12.00 new. My car did the same thing, go to start it and this horrible grinding noise would continue after I let off the button (push start) had to hit it with a hammer every time I drove it until I got it fixed. Also a high performance one isn't necessary. The power loss you saw was from all the amps from the alternator going to the starter (dim lights)

No not at all a stock one is the same as a high perfomance might last a little while longer. A high torque starter might be used in a high compression motor where it takes more to crank it over, but if you plan on just doing bolt-ons a stock starter is just fine.

Default starter

make suer the car doesn't have a remote starter that is malfunctioning before you go and replace more stuff. if its starting by itself and blowing fuses sounds like it could be a shorty in someones remote start mess.
