i have a problem but im not sure its the tranny itself because it never acted up before i started the car up one day put it in drive and it wouldent move so i ran thru the gears and it sounds like it wants to shift but cant does anyone know what might cause this is there a vacum hose that afect a valve or sumthing else that might cause this. im not sure what tranny i have either its what ever comes stock in a 1990 mustang lx 3 2.3 5 speed automatic ? plz help

Have you checked your fluid level? if its low the transmission will not shift into gear

i just had my transmission rebuilt and what happened with me was i back out the drive way and put it in drive and started driving turn on to a major street start speeding up (as fast as a stock 2.3 can lol pedal to the floor) my car gets up to 25mph and starts sounding like it was in neutral and revs really high i turn rite into dennys which is a couple blocks from my house parked in a spot and was thining it was the knock problem from the sensor turned car off turned it back on put it in reverse and wouldnt go anywhere so pushed it back put it in D and was able to limp going (25mph) so if your car sound like that then have it rebuilt or consider swapping it for a T5 manual if you like controling your speed
