Default 4 pistons with 8 spark plugs

why did ford decide to give the 4 banger 2.3L 1991 engine with 8 spark plugs and 2 distributors why did they do this and does a 2.3 turbo engine have 8 spark plugs

Supposedly for better combustion efficiency (cleaner emissions)

The turbo engine has only 4 plugs and a conventional distributor with 1 coil.

The first dual plug motors appeared in the Rangers in '89, one model year after the last of the turbo motors.

The dual plug head burns form two flame fronts, completing the burn while the piston is nearer full compression. this added about 15 hp over the single plug engine. Datsun used dual plugs sometime around the early eighties.

Maybe 20PSI, new computer, new 3" VAM, and some porting will make it faster
