Default Electric Fan Issues

The other day my car started to overheat and I noticed the fan wasnt working...it was frozen rock solid. I put a new fan in and it still doesnt work. What could the problem be? Could it be the ICM?

If your Mustang is 87 to 90, the fan control module is on the drivers side under the dash near the kick panel. If it is 91 to 93, it is under the hood on the passenger side on the fenderwell. There is also a temperature sensor on the motor that controls turning the fan on. You probably need to look at a wiring diagram in order to trace the problem.

I just went with an aftermarket dual speed fan controller by SPAL. Google it for more info.

The fan control is known for burning out and needing replacement, cheaper to run a fan or go with an after market controller

Maybe 20PSI, new computer, new 3" VAM, and some porting will make it faster

NOT trying to hijack this thread, but would a bad fan control module affect the AC?(like the compressor clutch, pressure switch and so on not getting power)

yeah most def. if you hook it up direct with a toggle switch dont forget to turn it off. i had a situation where i was several miles from home and forgot to turn the fan off. came back to the car with a dead battery. had to get a jump start. also its a easy way to over heat it if you forget to turn it on. wich can lead to a blowed head gasket that will cost more than $70.00 to replace. i myself recomend replacing the fan relay or a aftermarket fan controller. the cheapest way isnt always the best in the long run.

Thanks man. I was thinking I might have blown a head gasket but I wasnt sure but now that you put it that way It is a good possibility. My car has overheated before. The car seems to lack power now too and that could be because of the lack of compression(from the blown head gasket). Im gunna take a look at it.

Like already posted. The module is probably bad. Bad motor either burn't it out or connection. Post the year would help.

That's why I went with the SPAL setup. Less than $100 to my door and won't burn up like that TRW design.

It also keeps unneccesary amperage from traveling into to the passenger cabin and providing the potential to start an electrical fire.
