Default 1989 mustang transmission problems

When i bought my mustang the owner said it had a weak transmission, and i was going to use a transmission out of a 92 but it has three wires running down to it and mine has two so i dont think it will work, so i am just going to try to fix my transmission. When i drive it, it will wait to shift until about 5000 rpm, but i can manually shift it in to 2 but when i shift it to D it will go back to first unless im going fast enough to force it into 3rd and i havnt been fast enough for it to shift into 4th. so does anybody know if this is fixable.

I had somewhat similiar problems after a mechanic (by mistake I assume) hooked the transmission vacuum line to the evap canister. So it might help to check out the vacuum lines.

Check the vacuum line at the modulator valve. If it has fluid in it, the modulator valve is bad and must be replaced. If it is dry, check for a strong vacuum on the line. If is is not there, trace the line back up to the vacuum manifold looking for holes or loose connections.

Take your transmission vacuum line off and see if fluid is in there. If transmission fluid is than replace the modulator. Modulator controls when the transmission shifts depending on the vacuum it sees

Maybe 20PSI, new computer, new 3" VAM, and some porting will make it faster

Well, i was looking at all the vac lines to make sure they were hooked up because i had a high idle problem. And i noticed the metal line that runs up the back of the engine on the driver side didnt have a line running to it so i hooked it back up and the transmission shifts perfect. Not bad considering the people who sold it to me said the transmission was shot.
