i was wondering if it was possible to replace the 2.3 engine with a v6 around 2000 years what kind of stuff would i need to change for this swap like transmission, and radiator, rear end, stuff like that im very interested cuz im trying to decide if im going to replace the engine im trying to debate of what engine i should go with and the v8 conversion sounds pretty tuff to do for the 4 cylinder so i was wondering about a v6 and did ford make a turbo v6 or straight 6 turbo for there thunderbirds just curious and switching it to a 2.3 turbo sounds easy to do but i dont think i will get the power that i would like out of it if i made it auto transmission which i think im going to stick with for my mustang since its set up for a auto and its a convertible
Like said 2.3 turbo. Easy job for most. Now something differant I thinking off. Looking for a converable Mustang to do this. SHO Motor RWD. Still would do a lot of measuring to make sure fit. Haven't no one on net done it. Lot of searchs. Lot of custom work. Only for the brave. There is way to use t-5. Even more custom work. SHO Engine Transplant, Page 1 Sleeper 8 hours yes if all parts good and no problem. Remember dealing with 20 Year old parts and they are used. I would plan for trouble. Not in the swap. Just in bad parts and ordering time to replace.
if it can fit i would be interested what is this sho motor and its stock top hp Tq and would it fit with my AOD or would i have to get new transmission too go with it
Spec on trans that will fit is on the site. If remember correct must be Aerostar trans. The SHO was in the Ford Taurus. Like said major custom work. Make your own motor mount. Exhaust system. Rotate and make adapter for upper intake. It has to be rotated. Not to mention custom fuel line or reuse stock? I am not sure would fit. But if a 4.6 will I don't why not. At least be Ford to Ford. Info Ford Taurus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Have read elswhere response very well to opening up exhaust and intake work. 3.0Liter v-6 220HP and 200ft lbf. High reving motor. Turbo 2.3 use a a4ld. I think this is what is in a Mustang. Not famaliar with Mustang auto. Have c-4 in mine. I know you will need a turbocoupe auto computer to get 4 th to work properly without a wiring issue. Sleeper Inc has 4 speed auto behind his. May ask him. Or wait for him to answer.
I have a 88 A4LD behind mine, the 87-90 where hydraulic 3-4 shift.
The AOD transmission needs the input shaft machined down and a 2.3 to 5.0 bolt pattern plate needs to bought. A custom converter or flywheel may have to be made/bought to let the AOD work.
Running about 160HP through an A4LD with 90K miles, loads of burnt transmission fluid, stock radiator cooler, lots of races and break stands... so far, no slipping, bitching or breakage
Even with a quart low on fluid and a bad modulator

Maybe 20PSI, new computer, new 3" VAM, and some porting will make it faster
