Default Headlight/ Taillight problem

Okay I want to buy this mustang I found, mustang is great and all but the only thing is that I think there's a short or something with the lighting. The taillights work when the headlights are off and the brake is depressed. But when I turn the headlights on the taillights don't seem to turn on, sometimes they do. Anybody have an idea what that might be.
Thanks,
Bruno

Okay you know what, the guy I'm buying the mustang from said that the car was not doing that before he got a paint job on the car. He said they took the taillights off to paint and when he got the car back they started to mess up. I know I should take the car back when I get it or have the owner take care of it but I want to know why that happened to the car. good knowledge. any ideas?

Check the grounds for the tail lights, could be paint getting in the way of a good connection.

well if he just took the head/tail lights off it shouldnt be that but if he messed with the wiring harness then he could have messed something up there but like pootitang said check the grounds and also make shore all the connectors are connected right but also if he did mess withthe wire harness and didnt disconnect the battery he could have caused a short somewhere look i will send you a wire diagram for you to look over ok so what year is your stang????

Sorry it took so long to respond. The mustang is a 1991. Thanks for all the info. You can also send the diagram to my email at bcbruno_2006@hotmail.com

just to amuse me....open the hood and on the passenger side of the engine at the bellhousing see if the body ground is broke...my car did all kinds of wacky things and it turns out i forgot to hook it up after the trans swap and it was just resting on the bellhousing, when i turned a corner i'd loose my taillights, and my radio( the wire was coming ungrounded) it bolts to a bellhousing bolt, it's braided. just a hunch.
