Default Cost of an A4LD rebuild?

Hello all,

My buddy is looking at buying an '89 2.3l Notch for a work beater. The OD trans is shot. What should he expect to spend on a rebuild or replacement. The car is only costing him a couple hundred bucks. The body is in very bad shape but the engine seems to run good. He's looking for a REAL low buck fix for the trans or it's not worth buying.

Thanks for the help...

A small fortune. I went to AAMCO a few months back to get a quote and try and find a cheap place. The were going to charge me $1100 bucks parts and labor for a C3. A C3!!!!! I paid $200 for my Zephyr and dumping that into a C3 would be pretty pointless. I would check local news papers...here in Tucson we have the Dandy Dime and they have ads for stuff like that. So just check around. Maybe you'll get lucky.
