Question 1988 mustang clutch cable adjusting ?

how do you adjust a self adjusting clutch cable, mine is a little to tight and it makes my throughout bering ride the pressure plate a little

Thumbs up Adjusting clutch cable

To adjust the auto-adjusting clutch cable on your 88' mustang, find where the clutch cable enters in through the firewall. On 88' it should be right next to the throttle cable. Once you found where the cable comes into the cabin, notice that its attached to a white-ish yellow plastic semi-circle with teeth. And that semi-circle's teeth comes in contact with a much smaller piece of plastic and this assembly is what controls the amount of tension on the clutch cable. To adjust the actual cable, pull the smaller piece of plastic away from the semi-circle, then rotate the semi-circle to the tension you want and let go of the smaller piece of plastic. They will "latch" back together and you should be all set. The semi circle is actually more of a 1/4 of circle, but you really can't miss it once you get underneath your dash. It may take a few tries with re-positioning the plastic assembly to find the tension you're looking for. Good luck!

ok here is somthing.... i know this 1/4 circle you speak of... and the white clamp used to adjust it.... here is my problem... when i press the clutch peddle in.... that clamp won't hold on there and its pops a couple times and then ratchets back in... point is that i cant shift at all with the car running... any thoughts

remove the stock quadrant and get a maximum motorsports quadrant and their firewall adjuster problem solved

cost is 70$ getting the old quadrant off is a paint in the behind literally :P i like to remove the drivers seat and then lay something over the front seat studs for cushion(the studs will be poking you in the back) the removal of the stock plastic quadrant is the hardest part i just broke mine off, probably could use a dremel etc if you can get it to fit. then you install the new quadrant and firewall adjuster adjust the clutch and your done on a 1-10 level for skill ill says its a 3, but on an aggravation scale ill say its a 6 :P Clutch Quadrant, and Firewall Adjuster Package [MMCP-52] - $67.41 : Maximum Motorsports Performance Mustang Suspension Store, Buy Now!

did you have the same problem i know the cable shouldn't be stretched its new as of a year ago. and how do i tell is the slave cylender is engaging completely? i have some grinding from 1st to to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd.... i first thought that is was the syncro's but when i double clutch it seems to help any hints or tips?

To adjust the quadrant, PULL up on the clutch pedal. If is skips the pawl over the quadrant when depressing the pedal, it is getting stripped.
In addition, if the throw out bearing is catching on the bearing retainer and the clutch pedal is hard to depress, you need to change the bearing retainer to a steel model.

you dont have a slave cylinder the car is a cable clutch system(unless you have a tbird or tbrid setup in your car)

i get my new quadrant monday any step by step tips or hints would be awesome... i know a little about cars but almost nothing about trans or clutches... just how to drive one lol so asume i know nothing so that once it is here i don't have to ask 101 questions

i am in middle of this project and can't get the smaller plastic peice off the peddle. you know the one in the back that is spring loaded and locks into the 1/4 circle stock quadrant..... i need help getting it off cuz the white plastic peice is wider then the gap to slide it out

HELP!

i am extremely disappointed in the lack of help i am getting on this in the last 2 days thought you assbags knew what you where doing and you had a good start but then just stopped caring

i changed one my car just be paitent, you may have to push the pedal to the floor to make room for it to come off, this is the hardest i've project ever done on my car cause your hands don't fit under the dash, if you get frustrated take the steering column out. good luck.

i didn't get the firewall adjustment and i need some slack in the cable to get it all squared away is that adjustment mounted on the bell housing?
