I have a 90 model 2.3 non turbo. Is this a MAF engine or a speed density?

If I put a Pacesetter header on the engine and weld in a bung for the oxygen sensor, will that screw up the computer and make the car run like crap, or will it help my performance?

Ditto for a new high perf catalyic converter and larger exhaust system.

I have seen several performance cams for the 2.3, does anyone know which work well with EFI engines?

John

Speed Density.

The header should not screw up the computer.

Not sure about the cams.

A 96 Ranger manifold is a tube steel header and may be a cheaper alternative from a wrecker. Has the bung welded in as well.

What cams are you referring to?

Flex, Wolverine has a camshaft with 268 degrees duration and .422 lift. SVO also has 4 or 5 cams for the 2.3, some are pretty radical. I just don't know which ones if any will work well my speed density EFI system. I wouldn't want to wind up with an engine that doesn't want to idle right and eats up gas...

Well Speed Density can account for %10-20 improvement in flow. Optimally, you would want to get a MASS air computer from a newer 2.3. They can be scounged up cheap at a pic your part.

We used a Ranger cam at .4 lift in my brother's car. Same cam used by Turbo Joe Morgan.

Crane and Comp also have cams for the 2.3. Generally idle quality can be maintained with cams with less duration than 230 at .050. The cam you mentioned should be about 224.

I have not had a lot of success with wolverine cams.

Thanks for the tips Flex. Changing to a MASS AIR, what year(s) Mustangs do I need to pick from? Also, what are the basic parts I will need? Mass air meter, throttle body, and computer?

I believe that 92 is the first year that the 2.3 got MASS air. Stay away from the DIS models unless you want to convert to that as well. Just changing to mass is is 17 hp.

You need the ECM, MAF, computer wiring harness and engine harness.
