1989 mustang lx is mis-firing

i got a 1989 mustang lx with 185xxx km on it. i bought it in december but it sat until 2 weeks ago when i started driving it. just this week it has started mis firing. today i replaced the cap + rotor and put in new spark plugs and it is still doing it... some times it will run really smooth and then other times the engine will idle really low and shake violently... can someone please try and help me

i havent done the plug wires yet... but they are only a year or 2 old... i was thinking it might be the distributer all together

Hi,

I had one of the same syptoms you have on my old project car. It turned out that one of my ignition wires was damaged by the boot so it wasnt firing the plug.
