The ECT is the link between the engine and the EEC for cold start enrichment. I am going out on a limb to assume you have a TC EEC? If so, what is the nomenclature (eg, LA2, LA3)?

The ECT is located in the top side of the upper intake, between #2 and #3 injectors in the water jacket. Have you pulled any codes?

The only other thing that will control AF ratio is the O2 sensor.

What is the AF ratio after warm up?

What means have you used to ensure that the sensors are functioning correctly? I have t-shooting instructions on them all.

Are you running a VAF meter for the turbo intake? If so, is it a small or large VAF meter?

I have schematics if need be for the pinouts. I just need to know the EEC.

hey guy's thank's for the response's.here's what i know so far.im not as wise as you guy's on this engine.ok so like i said, this is all out of a 88 tc.we have a guy across from the shop who has some sort of snap-on type information device that goes back to 88 where it told us what voltage or amp's or whatever where suppose to see from all the sensor's.so far the vaf meter is way off.my friends told me we were suppose to see like 1.6-6 volt's and the meter was putting out like 12?.so we took a shot on ordering a rebuilt vam out of penn.will try this as it's coming 2nd day air...navysvo,thank's for your reply too.as for your question's.the ect is the coolant temp? if so,it was checked, and all was good there.as far as the eec.i have to find that out for you.where is the info located for that? the vaf, well large or small?.i know it has a 3 1/8" inlet and outlet.thank's again to all and i will be back with result's,hopefully good..lol....al.

Yep, an out of range VAF meter will make it run rich, as it measures the airflow and if it is telling the EEC that you have X amount of air, the EEC will tell the injectors to run at X pulse. I failed to mention this, and even thought about that after I had sent the last post.
I was driving the SVO one day and got all over it and went to shift into 3rd and it died. I chased my butt for a few hours on that one. VAF vane was stuck wide open causing the EEC to call for max fuel.
In addition, you should only see up to 6 VDC on the VREF (voltage reference), which is pin 26 IIRC.
Attached is the troubleshooting procedure for it.

If you are dumping that much fuel into your engine, you will need to change the oil. When I had my episode with the VAF, I changed it out and you could smell the fuel in the oil. Fuel dillusion of oil will tear up and engine, and can also cause a crankcase fire/explosion.

The ECT is indeed the coolant temp sensor.

That measurement is indeed a large VAF.

The EEC nomenclature should be on the paper label on the haness plug adapter on the EEC itself. It will also have the Ford P/N stamped into the body on the EEC. Small lettering below the plug adapter..

hey navy, thanks for the reply.the ecc is a la-3.where totally at a loss on what's going on with this freaking car.next is where gonna call and locate another ecc.the new vane came in.we installed it.alittle better but still not right.car idle's but seem's to be searching.like i said all sensor's where checked then replaced for process of elimanation.my friend think's it's the eec.my only guess is the msd plug wires. plug's where checked tonight and where jet black.car run's rich then rev it up at low rpm, and it sputter's,then rev's up higher and then back fire's????.my friend's brother is more versed the us in electrical stuff.we fabricate and make thing's fit.the wiring harness was laid out on a table, marked everything we needed and rermoved what we did not need.where thinking did we remove something we should'nt have?other then the egr, everything on the engine is there and working and stock accept those msd 8.5 wire's..thinking of going back to carb's ...lol..any input is well apprecated...thank's....al..

It backfires from too much fuel.

I answered your PM with more to check and other questions
