Default 1989 2.3L radiator fan issue

The radiator fan on my 1989 2.3L is not 'kicking in.' I replaced the relay found by the steering column, under the dash- but still nothing. I tried a spare fan I had from a 1990 six cylinder to make sure that it wasn't a fan issue. Any suggestions? Thanks

Have you jumpered the fan directly to the battery to see it it works there?
The sensor that will close the circuit could be pooped or have a bunch of buildup on it to where it won't work.

I went with a kit from SPAL (google it) that will work with the factory sensor or you can get one from them as well. I went with this as with the age of these cars and the crappy factory wiring has the potential to start an electrical fire.
I use the stock fan, and you can set up their controller under the hood. It has 2 settings where at your desired temp it will start the fan at half speed, and at the 2nd temp it will run the fan full speed. It's about $100.00. They also have fans as well.

The people that had my mustang before me just rigged some switch under the steering colum doesnt seem to kick in though. so i just wired it to the battery with a switch i turn on myself when it gets hot. fast easy fix kinda annoying having to turn it on every time though.
