Default Ignition Cylinder Switch Problem

Hi guys. I havent posted in awhile as I have been quite hectic in my daily life. Here is my question. I couldnt get my key in the ignition the other day. I fiddled with it and pushed a small piece of metal up inside the top of the ignition and was able to get my car started. I knew then that it needed replacing. I live about 25 miles from the garage I work in and was going to be working in the area today so I decided to wing it until after work today. Well, I went on lunch, sat in my car and listened to my radio. Everything worked hunky dorey. I had the new ignition switch or cylinder , whichever it is called sitting in a bag on the seat next to me. I get off work and go to start the car and the key wont go in. I fiddle with it and no dice. Bottom line, I get the car towed to the garage and we start to work on it. Problem is , is that the key needs to be in the run position to unlock the pin to remove it. I cannot get to that stage as my key wont insert into the device. I decided to be ballsy and drive to drill it out. At this point, the cylinder pin on the bottom is gone, drilled out. The key insert is cleaned out and I cannot get the damned thing out. The steering wheel has been removed for better access, but I cannot figure out how to get this thing out. I suppose one good thing though, I wont ever be a good car thief.
If anyone can please PLEASE help me figure this out and get it changed out I would very much appreciate it. I will be going back to work on it again on Thursday. Until then I am driving a Dodge Caravan as my mechanic buddy is a Mopar fan.

Embarrassed,

Meatman
