Question AC pressure?

Hi, my 92 mustang's a/c needs some freon and probably some oil. The compressor is only staying on for a few seconds at a time and the air is not cold, so i figure it is low. The compressor is squeaking when it engages so I'm guessing it needs a little bit of oil. My question is how much pressure should be on the low side. I have the gauge, but don't know where I should be at. It is an R-12 system by the way.

You can't purchase R-12 unless you have a license, plus it's ULTRA expensive. What you need to do is convert your A/C system to R-134A with a conversion kit that you can pick up from most auto parts stores and WalMart. The kit costs around $30 and is easy to use.

they also make a new type of gas that doesnt require a kit or anything. Its called Freeze 12. all you do is draw a vacume on your line to get the old R-12 out and put that freeze 12 in it. nothing special need. it will only take to cans of it. and the cans are about... 12 bucks i think? some where in that neighborhood. but its cheaper than R-134a

Default Radiator fan

Check to be sure that the radiator fan is coming on. It should ALWAYS be on when the AC is on. If it does not come on, the AC compressor will overheat and lock up, and the belt will squeal. If the fan is not coming on, you can temporarily wire it directly to the battery and see if it comes on. If it does and the AC works with the fan running, you will need to troubleshoot the fan circuit.
