Never heard of anyone doing that before. The Mercur is a completely different car and I don't think the Germans made anything compatible between their XR4Ti and the Mustang.

The Merkur IRS won't swap, but with a little work, the SN95 era Cobra IRS can be hung under a Fox with a little effort.

Yep, Mustang ABS and Brake Information Home has a BUNCH of info on upgrading our brakes and front suspensions with SN95 and Cobra models calipers and rotors;master cylinders, boosters and such.
It doesn't directly address IRS issues.
A friend of mine has a Miata and it has IRS......wonder if anyone has looked at the possibilities since Mazda IS a Ford derivative?

no the the whole system from a miata will fit in an escort from 91-96 but doubt a mustang i know a lot on this subject because my brother owned a 91 escort gt engines are exactly the same just different drive types you can make one from front wheel drive to rear with miata trany or to awd from an awd protege just need lots of work.

on to the stang i just dont want to change from 4 to 5 lugs more rims yes but i think the cobra crome rims are cheaper for 4 lug than 5 which is what i want to get.

It's not because it's on a Ford that it'll fit a Ford ... Mustang is Ford USA, Escort is Ford Europe ... two different kind of products with minimal common parts.
I think the only parts you could swap from an Escort to a Mustang (beside the 2.3l engine specific to North America) will be sensors, oil filter, washer pump and maybe a few electric gremlins. Even wheels only share bolt pattern and center pitch ... backspace is too different.

Same applies to Mazda, it's owned by Ford but the only Ford that'll substancial catalogue of components is the Probe, a Ford badged Mazda.

truthfully the escort gt from 91-96 was a mazda only mazda components and a ford chasis the lx was german components with ford chasis. the first gen was yes a europe car. but you want a fast escort get a cosworth.

Guys, regardless of make and badging, the Miata is rear wheel drive
Independent Rear Suspension coupe with an axle width that's pretty damn close to whats on our 'tangs and in general are newer and somewhat plentiful.
