Question How to remove 2.3L Airbox and Mass air flow sensor?

Ive been looking at different threads telling me how to somewhat remove the airbox but cant find any that really explain it well for me. I want to install a Cold air intake for my 1991, 2.3L that I found on mustangsunlimited. I don't know what I have to do to the Mas air flow sensor, if I remove it will it affect my car in any way? and the 2 vacuume tubes coming out of the air box, what do I do with those? Please help!! Thanks in advance!

This is the Cold air intake for my 2.3L

I think the MAF is right behind the cone filter in the illustration you provided, the piece with the blue ring. If not there, it must go inbetween the two curved pieces and attach to the bracket. The car won't run without the MAF unless you change it over to a carb. That's a bit more than adding a CAI.

There should be vacuum hose routing info on the VECI plate. It's probably for the carbon canister purge.

So I cant add a CAI without first switching over to a carb? What if I add the MAF on the intake?

Or can't I just remove it like it is on this Notch 2.3L

i am doing the same thing to my car. go to ebay and look up (mass air adapter 2.3) that will hook you up with a 5$ part that bolts onto your mass air piece then all you have to do is put on your cone... i have no clue what to do with the vaccums i have been running with out them for about a week and i havent seen a check engine light yet. here is a link to that on ebay. (note i have NOT put this on mine yet but i will buy it cause its only11$ so not sure if it fits YET)eBay Motors: Ford 93-97 94 95 96 Probe Mass Air Flow Intake Adapter (item 220248018625 end time Jun-25-08 21:58:37 PDT)

no no do not run without the mass air. i tried running it without it and it back fires. the reason is that the mass air tells the computer how much fuel to inject to get the fuel to air ratio correct. the mass air piece is vital. and if i were you i buy that CAI from mustangsunlimited and see if it has that adapter in it if you havent already. but if it doesnt have the adapter i would go ahead and buy one off ebay. after i get some more money i will do it to mine. by the way nice car.

Thanks! I emailed mustangsunlimited and they told me this,

"Cold air intake has provisions for the vacuum lines, ACT, and the MAF goes between the two pipes supplied. Will work with all the original sensors."

So im gonna buy that CAI from mustangsunlimited, its $59. Ill tell you how the installation went for when it arrives.

The picture from MU is not the right intake, unless they changed it in the last several months. I ordered mine back in January, and it's just a pipe, a filter, a gasket, and a couple clamps. It's the same one in the cardomain pic above.

Hey I noticed in that pic you posted, that you removed the hose from the bottom of the air box that lead to the header. Is it bad to just leave it open like that?

I'm not really 100% sure, but I thought I heard it was ok. Maybe someone else knows?

notch's car from his profile is a 89 and didn't have a MAF. but removing that hose that runs from the header to the intake box is fine. it just allows warm air to pass from the header to the intake box anyway.
