It is strange that the smoke is white. The PCV valve controls the ventilation in the area of the motor that contains oil. I would think that you would see blue smoke. White smoke indicates that water is somehow getting into the combustion chamber. Water has only a few ways that it can get into the combustion chamber and they are all not good. It could just be a bad head gasket, or it could be something really bad like a cracked head or block. You should start with a good old fashioned compression test on all cylinders. Hope this helps.

I agree with timistim. It is most probably a shot head gasket unless you're unlucky and your block/head is cracked. Stop driving it around and get the cylinder compression checked so you can find where the leaking is coming from and you know where to look when you pull the head off - that is if the cylinder isn't full of coolant. Running an engine that is sucking coolant into the combustion chamber is a big no-no!

The gaskets you'll need to change aren't expensive, pick up a Haynes manual or the like and plan the repair. Much easier that stumbling through it.

Good luck
