Try getting the motor flush stuff that you can use before you change your oil. PUt it in the oil, run the car for ten minutes, but dont drive, drain the oil, and put in fresh oil. It might help it go away.

It took me about 20 miles of driving to fill my lifter back up with oil after it got squished out while drag racing.

Wait, i just realzied you wrote that you changed the timing belt. Did you time the cam to the crank correctly?

It should go away soon, dont worry, but be gentle.

Hey, I have an 89, 2.3 and the same thing has happened to me. I changed oil about 20 miles ago with 10w-30 blend. I just replaced the timing belt. Everything lined up. When I started the engine to adjust the time, It sounds like the lifter or lash adjustment is clicking on number one. I have not driven the car yet, just let it idle for a couple of minutes. Are you saying that the noise will go away after driving a few miles? Also, does the enging actually have "lifters"? Are what the"Haynes Manual" calls "lash adjusters" hydraulic like lifters?

Ive always Called them lifters, Haynes is stupid in my opinion.

Drive the car nice, the noise should go away.

How many miles are on your motor, after i passed 75 k, i started running 10-40 oil.
