Default Tempture Sensor acting up?

My temp gauge hasn't been working since I got my stang 1 year ago but I've never overheated. I was wondering if the temp sensor that turns my fan on is the same that works the guage? Thanks

They are 2 different animals.

If you look under the oil sending unit (on the rear/driver's side of head), you will see a sensor in the block. That is for the gage.
The one for the fan is in the lower intake.
If the fan isn't working, more than likely the fan module under the dash is fried. You can get them at parts stores.
