sounds like it may be low on fluid.....or maybe a filter problem

Hi,

It sounds like the trans is slipping. Id pull the trans dispstick and check it for burnt fluid. Depending on your trans type, check the Vacuum modulator or the T.V Cable.

Assuming you have the A4LD transmission....

Change the fluid and filter first. If you find small black flakes in the tranny pan, the bands are wearing out.

After that, if you still have problems, you can check:

1) 3-4 shift solenoiod is not being energized properly. Wires shorted or open circuit.
2) Trans case connector and harness connector not seated

or....

It could be a malfunction of:
EEC IV processor
Vacuum line disconnected from map sensor
Map snesor
Throttle Position Sensor
Vehicle speed sensor

assuming all that checks out......

now, into the tranny proper....
1) Check OD band adjustment
2) Overdrive servo damaged or leaking
3) Polished overdrive band or drum
4) Contaminated or sticking 3-4 shift valve
5) Contaminated and sticking 3-4 solenoid

I was having a similar problem with my engine overspeeding on the 2-3 upshift. Found a busted intermediate servo piston and the intermediate bands were disentergrating.

I would say you probably have a busted/leaking overdrive servo piston/seal. When the servos leaks, the bands take up the slack on the shift thereby wearing the bands and soon all hell breaks loose..........
