Default 1984 Mustang SVO looking for the vam location

Hi ,
Can somebody please tell me where the vam is located and where it bolts to? On my newly purchased project car, it was in the back seat. A picture would be great. Thanks.

Here is a pic. The VAF meter is circled. There is a bracket with rubber anti-shock snubbers that holds it in place to the fender well.
The airbox affixes to it. From there, the flexible hose attaches to the turbo inlet. Ensure the anti-collapse wire is inside the hose. If it isn't, cut out the ends of a soup can and stick it in there. Crude, but effective.

No problem man. Let me know if I can help out in the future.

Also, please go over to www.svoca.com and enter your VIN in the registery.
You can sign up there with the forum and also become a member for $30.00 a year. The membership will get you benifits (read-discounts) with many parts and service places that cater to the SVO and 2.3 world. I have saved over 5x the amount I have paid into the club.

I have already been on their website and have registered my car. I joined the forum and I am waiting for authorization to post on there. One other question though, does the little flapper door on the vam go toward the turbo or the air box? This car is in a thousand pieces and being that i never worked on one before, i'm kinda lost. 5.0 cars are a piece of cake, but this is definately new to me. Thanks again for your help, Ivan

the vane rotates towards the turbo. think of the airflow direction and it will make sense. the black electronics cover should be facing up as well.
Here is a troubleshooting procedure as well.

Thanks again. I don't have a black box on my vam It is a big silver one and it will not bolt to the bracket that the air cleaner bolts to. I have room for it and will make a bracket for it. I think it must be a larger one. The person that owned this car before me hacked it up pretty bad and most of the little things on the right side of the motor are missing. There are no steel lines for the coolant to the heater core, no smog pump, no ac unit or lines and some brackets are missing. So I guess my next question would be, how many parts are shared with non turbo 4 cyl cars and how many are common with t-bird turbo coupes. If these missing items are common to all these cars, I will be junk yard hunting. Sorry for the long post and thanks.

Forced4 has a coolant line and hose kit for the H2O and non-H2O cooled turbochargers. The kits even come with diagrams for installation. Forced4 will also sell separate lines and hoses.
They offer a member discount for the SVOCA folks. Join there for $30 and you will save that much on discounts with the different club-endorsed vendors.

There was never a smog pump on an SVO.

If you want A/C, Motion Dynamics (SVOCA club discount) offers a replacement system.

The turbo coupe serpantine setup is always a nice swap for the SVO.
