Default why dual plugs

Why did ford go with dual plugs in the latter 4cly mustangs? Was it for mpg or more power? Other than a better exhaust and taking out the air silencer, is there any other tricks to getting a little more power out of the dual plug motor? I would like to try for an extra 15 to 20 hp if possible.

The dual plugs are suppost to give you more of a spark to add power.

It was meant for both, fuel efficient and more power. If you can find some headers, those can give you some more hp.

the header wont free up much, but it will add a nicer sound to your car, and free up a few hp...

but it was done for effeciency..

my thought's are to increase ones spending when doing a tune up!!!!

a bright guy at ford was thinking...how do we screw our 2.3 buyers!!!!! if they weren't so cheap they'd buy a v-8.... so how do I screw them???? I know!!! I'll put 8 spark plugs on a 2.3, fool them into thinking it's more power and runs cleaner..... but instead they'll be spending the same money as they would've had they bought the v-8!!!!

this is the reason..

scruffman, thats funny it made me laugh although it's probably true.

I am just trying to find some inexpensive thing to get a little more power while I am saving up to put a 5.0 in the car.

I've been saving up for my turbo parts. I'll get same amount or more hp as a 5.0, with 4 cyl gas mileage.

This is my "just for fun" car so mpg is not as important to me. The more I think about it, the more I think I might go with a 4.6l instead of a 5.0 just to be a little different.

I was thinking 300hp sounded like a good number and the new 3v 4.6 have that. I have an 87 grand marquis with a 5.0 and a 95 crown vic with a 4.6. The 95 vic is bigger and heavier than the 87 grand and it's still faster, smoother, and gets 6 mpg better than the grand.

He must either need money real bad or there's something wrong with it, you would be doing good to get just the motor and trans for 3,000 grand.
