I bought a 1989 lx mustang with the 2.3l engine from a friend from school. Besides needing a new battery it didn't have too many serious problems. Lately though I've been having trouble when I accelerate from a dead stop. I lose almost all aceleration, the engine rumbles, almost sounding like it's going to stall, until it gets up to about 2800 rpm when it kicks in again and runs fine. Then I upshift and the problem starts all over again. It does that for 1-3 gear but not usually 4 or 5. I'm not exactly a car expert and I don't have a lot of money to spend. Can anyone help?

Did you ask your friend if this problem ever happen to him or did it just start happening to you after you bought it?

take it to a mechanic and he can tell you what is wrong with it.. or if you dont wanna do that ask a gear head at your school and he can spot the problem..

the thing is our engines dont make power or torque till higher rpms are you poping the clutch

Hi,

Is there any CEL codes? I would start looking at the TPS and MAF. If the TPS is sending out the incorrect voltage to the cumputer, you may experience that type of driving issue.
