Default C6 transmission fitting fit when replacing A4LD?

i was wanting to swap out my AT tranny in '92 stang but wasnt sure it would fit. it has A4LD in it now, would a C6 fit in?

any other tranns fit? wanted a 5 speed but cant seem to find one at local junkyards. my grandfather has lots of C6's so i was just wondering. dont have much cash flow either.

the A4LD is a modified C3, so maybe that, i know a C4 will fit in there but not without a ton of work...

A C3 is where the C4 came from. The A4LD is basically a C4 with an overdrive attached to the front of the trans. A C4 will fit, but finding a 2.3L bellhousing is the hard part. Plus, you will not have an overdrive for hwy driving. If that's not your goal, then happy hunting.

the A4LD thats in it now slips in first sometimes and does not go into overdrive ever. and when i put in drive and let out of gas at 55 then rpms go down to almost idle

Yep, sounds like that thing is more toasted than my old A4LD was. If you're going to keep the car as a stocker, maybe you can find a trans shop that can freshen it up. But, beware the A4LD has a few parts that flat wear out, making a rebuild costly. Most people take the easy route, switching to a 5-speed manual.

stinger-performance.com has a bellhousing adapter so you can bolt a small block ford bellhousing to the 2.3l engine that might help you get a different transmission
