Default 1989 lx 2.3l has problem's staying running.

I have been searching the forum for people who have had the same problem's as I have had and no one has had exactly the same. So I thought I would start a new thread to just see what people have to say.

So sometime's it will start perfectly and other time's it will not start at all. It will sound like it's not firing, or maybe not getting gas. But if I push the pedal down a little bit it will fire a little bit and then die right away, if I pump the pedal it will sound like it's going to start but it wont. But if I spray starting fluid in the throttle body it will almost start but it wont start right away it will kinda sputter too.

But it will come out of it, die then I will start it again and it will start right away and run good.

Also it has problem's starting uphill.

I put new spark plug's in it and a fuel filter

I was thinking it could be a fuel pump or maybe somthing like that, I really just want to get it fixed. So if anyone has any idea just let me know.

check your crank sensor had that problem when it would run for a little bit it will also cause to not fire since that is what it uses for the spark this will cause it to stutter almost die come back then completly die.

Damn I have the same problem on my 1990 LX. Someone said to me that it's a connector on the intake manifold, I forgot what he called it though.

My car normally starts then cuts off on me, I have to pump the gas and then restart it.

the crank sensor is on your crank hub so you will have to pull off both belts remove the crank pulley and its a sensor on there ill see if i can find a pic for you.

picture of the crank pulley you need to remove both belts to pull the pully then unscew all four bolts then the center bolt may need a breaker bar pull that off you hub will be under that.

here is what your crank hub should look like on the car with the sensor on and off not hard when all you need is a 16mm to remove belts 14mm to remove bolts on pulley and i think a 19mm to remove center bolt for pully i dont remember what the crank sensor bolt sizes were.

How much are they to replace usually? Also, today I noticed there is a lot more sputtering than there usually is, so maybe there is another problem starting not really sure. I have new spark plug park wire's for it too but I havn't put them on yet.

So tonight my car would not start at all my uncle who has had a 5.0 mustang before and who know's alot about car's and he has been restoring car's since he was 13 with my grandpa, checked the fuel pressure and it bearly had 16lbs of pressure! Does anyone know how much it's suposed to have. I know it's not suposed to be that low though, but anyway's he gave me a 95lph fuel pump out of a 5.0 mustang that he had. So now I started to drop the gas tank so I can change the fuel pump! Any tip's on droping the gas tank, because I know I am having alot of trouble getting the bolt's out because of all the rust.

one word degreaser (spelling) this should help the rust out and make it easier to remove.
