Talking SVO aftermarket bolt-on HP HELP!!!!!

I have an 85 mustang svo. I have $30,000 im getting from a recent settlement and im putting about 6-5,000 into My SVO.. first im gonna have some cosmetic issues addressed namely a new paint job. But id like to push my SVO from it's stock performance to a 350-400Hp range or as close as possible with bolt on parts.. i will not be doing it all at once but will get everything dialed in later. just need a list of possible ideas. i.e.(new turbo set-up, intercooler options, cpu options, and anyother needs.) I'm gonna be honest i need my hand held on this. I don't know much so i need help.. links, brands, and any kind of resource would rock... I'm wanting 2 make this car into what it deservse and pretty much rub it into my friends faces. (who mainly own rice burners) i just want them to be envious, more so then now.. and most importantly eat my dust.. so can anybody help me??? oh yea i've been checking out stinger performance and such.. idk what i would need tho.. also have been checking out the whole volvo dual overhead cam deal but still idk... HELP!

www.rapidogroup.com has a nice aluminum head.

www.racerwalsh.com has some great internals and headers.

but that kind of horespower will need the bottom end built to keep up. the wife has an 89 XR4Ti that has an adjustable wastegate, intercooler, throttle body, and 20 psi and i would guess that delivers 275 or so.

good luck! and keep us posted

Any aftermarket head you get will not flow any better than the stocker. It will require additional porting as well as the iron head will. The only advantage of the aluminum head is head dissapation and the car's overall diet.

Check out Boport for power options. He makes his own custom ground cams that are terrific. he also has a porting service (hence the name). He is not cheap, but he is GOOD. You get what you pay for.

A 3" exhaust is called for for better spool up and turbo exhaust extraction. Don't waste your time or money on a header. Port an E6 manifold and you will be just fine.

The only thing you can do for a better EEC (computer) is go stand alone. Check out Megasquirt for more info. You will have to read until your eyes bleed, but it is worth it in the end.

The bottom end is good up until around 400 HP. After that you will need Esslinger's or Racer Walshe's help.

All in all, if you get your TORQUE numbers up, you are doing better than the HP numbers will. Torque moves the car, HP sells it.

Read up on here and take notes. There is a ton of info if you just take the time to research.

thanks guys for sure.. i'll definitely take the info into serious consideration. I'm going to do whatever i can with what i hav.. but if need be i will upgrade.. how much does the stock turbo have as far as boost.. I knw my uncles brother who had it b4 me had a larger turbo and biger injectors. I still have those injectors installed and my uncle disconnected the wastegate.. problem being when i was learning to drive the car i had to make sure the turbo didn't over spool if i got on it.. basically shifting at 18psi.. he said that would be the max.. is that the case for these stock turbos.. now i have the wastegate hooked up and it tuned down to about 6psi. i can for sure see a difference bc b4 i got that baby sideways with brandnew tread on it with only 2/3 throttle.. but i was working the clutch.. idk. i can't drive her nw since it's being stored and the battery died.. which f-ing sucks.. but yea any explaination on that.. if it's possible with the stock specs out the factory???? to do what id was or is it the way it is.. btw thanks for any and all help guys.. im trying 2 take it all absolutely serious as possible..

The stock turbo will support right at 20 psi of boost. Factors of this are:

1. Turbo condition
2. Integrity of the charge system (hoses, intercooler, leaks)
3. Gage accuracy. The stock gage is known to be inaccurate over time.
4. Condition of wastegate and vacuum hoses.
5. Condition of exhaust (i.e., plugged up cat).

You can throw bigger injectors and a turbo on anything, but if the engine and it's management system are not upgraded, then it is like trying to fill the Grand Canyon up with bricks.........a waste of time and effort.

One improvement you can look into (I had to because mine finally gave out) is a clutch and flywheel. I used Spec stage 2+ and a Spec aluminum flywheel to replace the stock equipment. The stage 2+ gives you a nice firm shift but not over the top. Good to about 400flbs. The aluminum flywheel helped to rev quicker (and spool quicker by dropping the weight by more than half. The stock flywheel weighed 22lbs and the aluminum weighed in at 9lbs. The setup set me back about $800 but if I had to do it all over again I'd do it in a heart beat.
