Default Radiator fan not working 1987 LX

Hi I have 87 2.3 lx with 256,000 and my radiator fan stopped working last week when I was delivering my newspapers. When the gauge gets over halfway the fan doesn't turn on.this gets annoying when stuck in rush hour traffic any ideas? I also am wondering about the heat it puts out. When I am going 25mph or faster I get very little heat is this a common problem with 2.3's. Thanks for any help you can give

You should be getting good heat.Is the coolant full?Check all related elec. connections. You can run a hot wire to the fan to see if it is still good.

It sounds like your electric fan switch is out. It's located on the lower intake manifold and it's a one wire sensor. They run about $15. I would say replace this sensor and if still doesn't work then it could be a number of things... A/C Relay Module, Cycling Pressure switch or the A/C clutch switch. There are pretty easy ways to check these things so let me know if the electric fan switch doesn't work.

Edit: Actually the first thing you should check is the fan itself. Disconnect the fan and connect it to the battery to see if it turns on. If it doesn't turn on your fan is busted and you need a new one, if it does turn on try the above.
