Default 2.3l turbo wot problems

Let me start off with a little info:

Bought a 88 Merkur Xr4ti with a blown engine supposed to have had crower rods, ranger roller cam in a merkur block but in fact it was a block and head out of a 93 mustang someone slapped a turbo to and the stock piston had shattered in little pieces under the boost i asume and to my suprise stock rods. Anyway rebuilt an engine I had as a project merkur motor. Ported the head installed large valves, installed the roller camshaft that came on the blown motor (it had no traceable numbers or markings on it and seemed hollow compared to stock camshaft could not find any info on it still makes me worried that i put it in) upgraded to a t3/t4 turbo, put a adjustable round tooth cam pully set at 0 for now, installed a walbro 255lph ho pump.

Now my problem she starts first crank, idles great, from 2000-4000rpm seems normal but entering 4000rpm @ wot soon as it hits around the 4000rpm mark i am thrown forward and there is no power and knocks but if I baby it she seems to run normal.

Changed the fuel pump and filter, installed new plugs and wires, going to go over the ecu wiring because it seem to have had a la3 which was removed and wonder if they swapped the wires back.

I guess the main question I have is the camshaft, what would an absolute wrong camshaft do? And if you can think of something from my symtoms tell me please.

Have you checked the TPS?

Other things that enter into mind:

1. Do you have a VAF meter? If so, does the hose going to the turbo have the metal anti-collapsing spring in it?
2. Does fuel pressure rise with boost (1 psi of FP per 1 psi of boost)?
3. Does it throw any codes?
4. Possible TFI/PIP problem

Thank you NavySVO,

Some great ideas never thought to check for the anti-collapse spring i did install a custom cold air intake going to check that. As for the error codes i want to make a reader but am unable to find a error code list is you can point me in the right direction. I did set my tps upon install. And do you have any idea's on how to check my pip/tfi that would be great

PM me an email address. I can send you jpg files with the procedure for checking the TFI with a meter.
As for the PIP, I think the TFI procedure covers that.......I forget right now and I am at work so I can't check it.
Here is a link for doing a KOEO (Key On, Engine Off) test

Ok it was a combo of problems but NavySVO hit it on the head. Went over my whole intake checking piping and clamps removed my blow off valve. Turned out there was a hole in the air line that tees off to my fuel pressure regulator and blow off valve so not enough fuel during boost (NavySVO u r good!!!) second played around with the tfi connector at idle and the car sputtered and shut off removed the clip and found some one put their own wire connector in there and slit was too big assume bad conection replaced that went for a rip and problem solved.

It pulls now in the higher rpm but I thought porting the head and installing larger valves would be a little more then what it is but my second car is a 04 Forester XT now everything i drive is slow.

Thank you NavySVO for your time and mostly expertise.

No problems, glad to help. I will get the TFI procedure out to the supplied email in the PM

If the TFI plug and wires are goofed up, Forced4 offers a replacement for a good price
