Default 89 2.3l transmission slipping

my trans started slippin yesterday. its been a lil jumpy goin into gears since i got it and i just thought it was the linkage neediing adjusted. well yesterday mornin it slipped out of all gears and then it was fine. but later on it wouldnt go into overdrive. y first assumption is the trans filter needs to be changed. im goin to get that now but i tryin to find out if my problem may have a different cause. any input is needed. please help

I would do the fluid and filter change first and see how that does.I suggest to use a bottle of Lucas trans. additive.

When you drop the pan and find a bunch of metal and black yuck you can almost garantee that its toast. Slipping is a sure sign of clutchs bad. A delayed shift could be alot of things. So changing the filter wont help much.
